February 2004 will be remembered for a break-through that many in the industry had been striving and relentlessly working towards for what seems to be an eternity. It marked the moment when the Nail Industry was recognised as an industry in its own right at Government level. What this means is that nail qualifications are no longer additions to beauty therapy or one-day courses with no assessment criteria.

There are now clear standards and criteria, which are set by the lead body and the Government who have no allegiance to any individual product company or manufacturer. The new standards will provide nail technicians with qualifications that ensure they are ready to meet the demands of today’s busy salons. They are more thorough and detailed and give technicians plenty of scope to achieve a good grounding in a broad range of skills.

At the Phoenix Nail Academy we offer the training to get you qualified and into the industry with a qualification that is not only highly recognised by the Nail Association, employers and clients but also by the local Health Authorities responsible for the licensing of nail salons.

Once working in the industry we can further your training and help work through the necessary units to gain the full NVQ at level 2 and 3.



Manicure, Gel, Acrylic and Fibreglass Nail Enhancements and Nail Art  
This City & Guilds course is designed to cover the principals, practices of natural nail manicure techniques, nail art techniques and application of artificial nail structures. It will enable the candidate to have a working knowledge of the three basic systems – gel, acrylic and fibreglass or silk.

You will also learn about the consultation process, possible risks, health and safety of treatment application. How to apply, maintain, repair and remove a structure. All the basic techniques needed to provide a nail art such as marbling, dotting, striping, rhinestones, glitters and more. This course is designed for those with no prior experience. If you have already studied manicure it is possible to join after the beginning of the nail technology section.

Gel Module (Kit required)  
Gel nails are the latest innovation in the world of professional nail enhancements. Gel is easier to apply than acrylics, making it the ideal system for beginners. Gel nails are odour free, hard wearing and beautiful to look at. Whether you’re a beginner or an accomplished nail technician, to offer a modern service, you need to learn gel nails.

If you have already achieved or are working towards a manicure qualification you could start your career as a nail technician with this module. You will receive accreditation for your prior learning and will be able to obtain an insurable certificate to allow you to practice nail extensions.

Acrylic Module (Kit required)  
Acrylic nails are beautiful, strong and natural looking and is the system every serious nail technician has to master in order to provide a full service. An ideal course for those with confidence and for those that want to attract the most customers.

If you have already achieved or are working towards a manicure qualification you could start your career as a nail technician with this module.

You will receive accreditation for your prior learning and will be able to obtain an insurable certificate to allow you to practice nail extensions.

Fibre Module (Kit required)  
Fibreglass nails are not always as popular as gel or acrylics, but in some ways are superior. They are the first choice for a client that chews her nails and if applied correctly will look very natural. There’s no odour during application and the chemicals used are friendlier. The finished nails are really tough and are easier to remove than the other systems. Fibreglass is the favourite system for a select band of nail technicians.

This module can be taken after either the gel or acrylic module to enhance your skills on the way to full qualification. You will receive accreditation for your prior learning and will be able to obtain an insurable certificate to allow you to practice nail extensions.

Basic Nail Art  
This workshop teaches all the practical elements of nail art design and colour. The techniques taught on this fun but informative day are designed to bring out the creativeness in you and help you master the basic techniques of foil, dust, striping tape and secures; techniques for freehand nail art and brush work; nail piercing; how to display and price designs; hints and tips.

The basic nail art designs are suitable to be applied to natural finger and toenails as well as enhancements.

Pedicure for Nail Technicians
Building on your existing knowledge you will learn how to transfer these skills to provide your clients with spa pedicure treatments including paraffin wax, exfoliation and thermal mitt treatments.

Phoenix Master Nail Technician (Kit required)
This five-day diploma has been designed for the nail technician wishing to enhance their skills to another level. The five classes can be taken individually or consecutively. Completion of all five classes will be awarded the Phoenix Diploma in Advanced Master Nail Technology.

Increase your revenue with the coloured, non-chip gel option for fingernails and toes that will last for weeks and weeks. Suitable for natural nails, there is a choice choice of nine basic colours giving you the option to use straight from the pot or mix together and add pearl pigments and sheens.
