City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Beauty Therapy

This programme has been designed to cover all the basic aspects of beauty therapy. It comprises of four courses covering: manicure, pedicure, skin cleansing & exfoliation, massage and mask therapy, make up, lash & brow treatments and waxing. The units are taught in a modular form to allow you to become quickly proficient at each task and enable you to use the skills to build your own clientele within the Phoenix Treatment Studio. No formal entry requirements are necessary other than a genuine interest in people and a desire to excel within the industry; however appearance, attitude and maturity will be considered. It is not usual to accept candidates less than 18 years of age.

There are four ways in which you can gain this qualification:

Fast Track Programme
9.30am – 4.30pm: Tuesday & Thursday plus six flexi hours for development and to complete case studies.
This course is especially suited for candidates who are serious about changing their career. It will be particularly suitable for you if you are not currently working full time and wish to gain the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience required to gain employment or set up in business. The course runs over 19 weeks plus as much time, as you need to complete your case studies, gain confidence and complete the assessments.

One Day Programme
(School Term Times Only)
9.30am – 3.00pm Wednesday or Friday
This course is especially suitable for those candidates who are required to care for school aged children. We do not train in the school holidays. This course provides flexible learning whilst ensuring you gain the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience required to gain employment or set up in business. The course runs over 45 weeks plus as much time, as you need to complete your case studies, gain confidence and complete the assessments.

Saturday School
9.30am – 4.30pm
This course is especially suited for those candidates who are unable to train during the week due to family or work commitments. This course provided flexible learning whilst ensuring you gain the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience required to gain employment or set up in business The course runs over 40 weeks (with 6 breaks throughout the year) plus as much time, as you need to complete your case studies, gain confidence and complete the assessments.

Evening Programmes
6.30pm – 9.30pm Monday or Wednesday
These courses are especially suited for those candidates who are unable to train during the day due to family or work commitments. You can choose to train on one or two evenings per week over 74 or 37 weeks. This course provided flexible learning whilst ensuring you gain the necessary knowledge, confidence and experience required to gain employment or set up in business.

Manicure and Pedicure  
This course is designed for those candidates wishing to start their career as a nail technician or therapist. You will learn how to carry out consultations and devise treatment plans, carry out manicure, pedicure and specialised hand and nail treatments. You will also learn about health & safety legislation, the structure and function of the nail, skin and the process of nail growth, skin disorders & diseases, massage, products used within the treatment and their ingredients, anatomy of the hand, arm, foot and leg.

Skin Care  
This course has been designed for those candidates wishing to start or add to their career as a beauty therapist. You will learn how to carry out consultations including skin analysis, cleansing, steaming, exfoliation, facial massage and mask therapy. You will also learn about health & safety legislation, the structure and function of skin, skin types and conditions, skin disorders and diseases, product ingredients, the ageing process, anatomy and physiology of the head and shoulders, how to use heat inducing treatments, effects and methods of facial massage, types of mask therapy.

Make Up & Eye Treatments  
This course has been designed for anyone wishing to begin their careers as a beauty therapist or to add make up to existing skills such as hairdressing. You will learn how to conduct consultations and carry out treatments to cover day, evening and bridal make up. You will also learn how to carry out eyelash and brow tinting and eyebrow shaping. You will also learn about health & safety legislation, the structure and function of the skin and hair, skin disorders & diseases, products used within the treatment and their ingredients and effects, methods of skin cleansing, toning, and moisturising; morphology of the face, the effect of lighting, eye shapes and how to disguise/diminish imperfections.

Depilatory Waxing  
This course is designed for therapists wishing to extend their skills. You will learn how to carry out consultations, assess hair growth and devise a treatment plan. You will experience waxing all areas of the face and body with warm and hot wax as well as being introduced to roller wax systems, sugaring, PHD Wax system and Brazilian hard waxing. You will also learn about health & safety legislation, the structure of the skin and hair, effects of hair growth and the hair growth cycle.

Phoenix Certificate in Advanced Beauty Therapy (Optional kits available)
Four workshops – Eyelash perming; Body scrub and Self-bronzing treatments; Intimate waxing; and Aromatherapy facial massage. This course is designed for therapists wishing to extend their skills in beauty therapy techniques. The workshops are available individually or discounted if booked together.

On completion of all four workshops you will receive a Certificate in Advanced Beauty Therapy practices.

Eyelash Perming  
A fantastic additional treatment you can offer your clients that helps to emphasise their eyes and offers a ‘natural look’ alternative to daily use of eyelash curlers. The products used are safe and gentle on the lashes with immediate results. The natural effect will remain even when wet.

Body Scrub and Self-Bronzing Treatments  
This is an extremely popular treatment offering the client a full body exfoliation followed by a self-tan application. Many clients prefer this method of tanning and treatments are in demand all year round. Therapists work on one another to experience the benefits of a golden even colour.

We use St Tropez products, which are available to purchase from the School at discount, alternatively you will be able to open an account directly with Beauty Source and use the famous St Tropez logo.

Intimate Waxing (female)  
Using GiGi Brazilian wax, we teach you how to perform this ever increasingly popular treatment. Using this wax with a gentle formula you will learn how to remove even the coarsest hair in sensitive areas. No muslin or paper strips are necessary. You will also be introduced to the techniques of ‘pubic topiary’.

You must be an experienced waxer to attend this workshop – models are provided.

Aromatherapy Facial Massage  
This workshop is designed for therapist wishing to extend their skills in facial and scalp massage techniques. You will be introduced to the olfactory system and the powerful benefits of essential oils. You will learn the therapeutic properties of the essential oils within the pre-blended oils you will use to carry out the pressure point face and scalp routine.

Advanced Electrical Facial Treatments  
This course has been designed to extend the knowledge and skill for therapists who have gained a level 2 qualification in skin care. The course covers basic electricity safety, types use and electrotherapy: vacuum suction; infrared; high frequency; galvanic; micro-current. In addition you will learn a pressure point massage and investigate further specialist treatments such as micro dermabrasion and glycolic peels.

Electrical Epilation  
This course has been designed to introduce the therapist to the world of permanent hair removal. The course covers in detail the endocrine and intergumentary systems and the effect of diseases and disorders on them. Health & Safety is paramount in teaching the safe and effective removal of unwanted hair through short-wave diathermy, galvanic and blend techniques. This qualification will enable you to gain insurance to offer Laser (IPL) treatments.

Red Vein and Skin Tag Removal  
A two-day Advanced Electrolysis course uses short-wave diathermy to treat spider naevi, blood spots, pendulated skin tags, milia, and telangiectasia (broken or dilated capillaries and thread veins). It is recommended that therapists have at least one years experience before attending this course.
